Miranda Rake is a writer and editor in Portland. Currently an editor and contributing writer at The Modern Proper, she has written for publications including The Wall Street Journal, Imbibe, Food52, and Portland Monthly, primarily on the topic of food and drink. You can take a look at her work here. In 2011, she earned a master’s degree in Food Studies from NYU. A quick perusal through her published writing demonstrates, among other things, a startling level of devotion to all things tiki. In her dreams, her office has a chaise lounge and a mini pink Smeg stocked exclusively with really really good Champagne. In reality, most of her work happens at the kitchen table while she tries to ignore the (mostly happy) shrieks of her toddler. She is passionate about all of the normal stuff like farmers markets, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and swimming in the ocean. She hates leaf blowers and writing in the third person. Until recently, she also owned and operated a small jam company, as is typical for a Portland-based millennial like herself.
